Dental Sedation in Mansfield, TX
We understand that most patients have some degree of anxiety about visiting the dentist. Central Park Dental proudly offers multiple levels of dental sedation to ensure you are as comfortable as possible. If you are apprehensive about dental treatment or simply want a more relaxing experience, dental sedation may be an excellent option for you
Types of Dental Sedation
Sedation dentistry simply utilizes medications to help patients relax during their dental procedure. There are a few sedation options that you may be able to benefit from, depending on your needs and preferences.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide (N2O) is the mildest form of dental sedation. Also known as laughing gas, Nitrous oxide is a gentle sedative gas that is inhaled through a nosepiece or mask along with oxygen. The sedative effect is minor, helping you feel relaxed and loosened up, but you are still fully aware of your surroundings and can communicate with your dentist. The sedative wears off in a matter of minutes after your dentist has stopped the flow and removed your nosepiece.
Oral Sedation
Oral sedation involves taking an oral medication prior to your dental treatment, and the effects are more potent than nitrous oxide. This form of sedation allows you to feel very relaxed by the time you arrive for your treatment. Depending on the strength of the oral medication, you may need someone to drive you to and from your appointment.
IV Sedation
IV Sedation involves administering medication intravenously (through your veins). This method allows your dentist to deliver the sedation faster and more precisely to your needs. Although IV sedation does not cause complete unconsciousness, most patients are so relaxed that they fall asleep during treatment. It is possible that you may not be able to recall all details about your visit, and you will need to arrange transportation to and from your appointment.
